Chapter Seven

As weeks pass, Alyssa notices she is craving odd things at odd times. Just yesterday she had french toast for dinner. She then realizes the cause of her odd eating habits. "I'm pregnant!" she tells Cole. Cole is a bit shocked at first. "Are you sure?" he asks. "Yeah I'm pretty sure. What's wrong? Did you not want kids? "No, it's not that. Are we financially stable enough for a baby right now?" he asks. Alyssa understands he is worried and probably a little scared too from the look on his face. "We'll be fine Cole, don't worry so much." she replies.

Telling her Mother, who was now showing her age, was a happy moment for both of them. "Alyssa, I'm so happy for you both! It's about time you made me a Grandmother." Kerrigan said. "I'm excited but I think Cole is a little worried about money issues." said Alyssa "Well I know I'm retired now but I could always go back to work if we need it." "No Mom, you've worked your entire life and now you finally get to relax. I don't want to take that from you. We'll figure out something out. I've been practicing my art and it's finally selling for decent prices." Kerrigan thinks back to the time she found out she was pregnant with Alyssa. A recently single, young, pregnant girl with no money left after buying her house. Alyssa was already in a better situation than she was. "Everything will be okay. Cole will eventually feel the joy you do. Just give it time." Kerrigan said.

Cole practices his guitar to sooth his mind about their finances. He feels bad that it was the first thing that came to his mind. He just wants to give his children a life he didn't have. Growing up in a house with a single father and 2 other siblings, they didn't have much. He was thankful for what he had but every parent wants their kids to have more than they did. He gets lost in his thoughts as he mindlessly strums the strings.

A few days later Alyssa receives a call asking her to paint 15 painting for the town's offices. She tells Cole the news and hopes it will put his mind at ease. "That's great Alyssa. I'm glad everyone will get to see how talented you are." Cole tells her. "See, I told you everything would work out. This job is going to bring a lot of money, plenty for us to do a nursery and have some left over." "I know, I should have listened to you. I've just been angry at myself for not being able to find a job. I keep looking but there just isn't anything available." "It's not your fault Cole. It's hard to find work in a small town. But will make it." "I love you so much. What would I do without you?" "Crash and burn probably." Alyssa says will a grin. Alyssa gets started on the paintings quickly trying to finished them before she has the baby. Her belly is growing each day and she knows their child will be here before they know it.

"It's time!" Alyssa screams. Cole runs around the house making sure they have everything. "Okay I've got the car keys, insurance cards, overnight bag..." Cole says as he gets in the car and starts it. Alyssa hops in the front seat and they drive to the hospital. After hours and hours of labor Alyssa finally delivers their son. They name him Dylan. When they get home, they put Dylan in his crib and stare down at their beautiful baby boy.

Grandma Kerrigan helps out when she can. She's moving a bit slow these days but is still a great grandmother. She gives Dylan a bottle the next morning while her exhausted daughter and son in law sleep.

Both Alyssa and Dylan enjoy playtime.

Cole snuggles with his son. As he looks down into Dylan's eyes he can't understand what he was so afraid of. He's now excited about being a father and knows Alyssa is right, everything will work out. Cole smiles as he's rocking Dylan to sleep and says, "I love you, son."

Chapter Six

Today is the big day. Alyssa is ready to start the next chapter in her life with Cole. She's a little sad that she doesn't have a Father to give her away at the alter. But she puts those thoughts aside to put on her dress and makeup. After getting ready and making those final touches she rushes to the Riverview Baptist Church where she'll marry the man of her dreams.

Alyssa and Cole say their vows and exchange rings. Family and friends gather around as Cole kisses his new bride.

After the vows are said, everyone gathers in the reception hall for food, drinks, dancing and of course cake. Kerrigan watches as Alyssa cuts the cake. But then out of the corner of her eye she notices a side door open. When she sees who's coming through the open door she starts to panic.

"Hey baby girl. Did my invitation get lost in the mail?" says Michael. Kerrigan could smell the alcohol 40 feet away. " Alyssa turns to see her Father staggering towards her. "Actually no MICHAEL, it didn't. You weren't invited because I don't want you here." "Since when did you start calling me Michael. I'm your Father dammit and that's what I should be called." Alyssa who is now enraged says, "I'll start calling you Dad when you start acting like one!" Cole hears the commotion and quickly comes to his bride's rescue. "It's time for you to go. She doesn't want you here and from the looks of it no one else does either." Michael, who can't seem to keep his balance, manages a step closer to Cole. "Oh yeah? What the hell are you gonna do if I don't want to go?" Cole's jaw muscles started to twitch as he takes the final step between them, making their noses almost touch. Kerrigan finally snaps back to reality. The last time she was with Michael when he was this drunk was the night he broke her arm. But she refused to let him ruin her daughter's wedding. For the first time since he came in, Kerrigan spoke. "Michael, Why don't you come outside with me for a minute?" She gave him her sexist stare to entice him to follow her, when he did she had a small breath of relief but it was premature because she didn't know what to do next. They walked outside of the church and Michael kept putting his hands on her body. She tried her best to stay calm and not anger him but inside she was a mess but she finally had an idea. "Michael, walk over here to your truck." They walked passed the windows and she noticed Cole starring out of one, making sure she was okay. That made her feel a little better knowing she had someone there to protect her this time. Michael then grabbed her arm and aggressively kissed her. She heard a door open but held her hand up behind Michael's back to get who ever it was to stop and let her handle it. She gently broke off the kiss to speak. "Why don't you get in your truck and drive yourself home and I'll meet you there? We'll have more privacy and you'll have me all to yourself." "Okay babe, you better hurry up though." he replied. "I will. See you in a few." she said with a smile. Michael barely made it in the truck and drove off. Kerrigan had no intention of going to his house but he didn't know that. She turned back to the church and saw Cole standing at the steps. "Are you okay, Ma'am?" he said. "Yes, I'm fine. Thank you for what you did in there. I'm sorry you had to see that but let's try to forget about it for now and get back to the party okay?" Kerrigan replied. "Alright." he replied. "Oh and Cole, don't ever call me Ma'am again." Cole smiled and nodded as they walked back to the reception hall.

After Michael left, the party was starting to get back to normal. Alyssa was still upset but she wouldn't let him ruin her special day. Someone cranked up the music and everyone started to dance. It was their first dance as a married couple and it made her remember their first dance during Prom. Then she remembered the wish she made on her star which made her smile and love him even more. "What?" Cole asked with a grin." "Do you remember when you showed me my star at Prom?" she asked. "Yes, why?" "Well before we left, I made a wish on it. My wish was that you'd be the man I'd spend the rest of my life with. I just can't believe it came true." "Well that must have been a very lucky star because we both got our wishes granted that night." said Cole.

It's their wedding night. Cole is extremely happy with what's about to take place. "Are you nervous?" he asked. "A little. But I'm definitely ready." Alyssa replied.

Cole put his hand on her face and caressed her cheek then rubbed his thumb across her lips before he gently kissed her. Then he laid her down on the bed and held himself above her. His kisses went from gentle and sweet to hot and passionate. While they were making love for the first time he swept her hair from her face and looked deep into her mesmerizing green eyes. "I love you." he said. Alyssa's heart seemed to burst with all the love he'd given her. She could see it in his eyes now. "I love you too." she replied.

After several passionate hours together, Alyssa and Cole cuddled on the bed, gazing into each other's eyes. Tired and exhausted from such an exciting day filled with new and fun experiences, they held each other close as they quickly fell asleep.

Chapter Five

While practicing on her new easel Alyssa gets a call from Cole asking her to meet him at the Art Gallery. Puzzled at the nervousness in his voice she rushes there to meet him. They start to view and discuss the paintings and sculptures. "Which piece is your favorite?" Cole asks. She thinks for a moment and then walks over to a hand sculpted globe. "This one. It's beautifully crafted and after seeing all the different places on the globe it makes you realize there are infinite possibilities. So many things to do and see." Cole grabs her hand and starts to kneel down on one knee. Confusion washes over Alyssa's face until she sees Cole take a small blue box out of his pocket. "See them with me. I want to marry you Alyssa. I know were young and we are fresh out of high school. I have no job and you've still a starving artist but I love you. Why should we wait another day when we know we're perfect for each other?" Alyssa is utterly shocked at first. "Yes!" exclaims Alyssa. "I want nothing more than to wake up in your arms for the rest of our lives."

Cole tells his family Alyssa accepted and his Father asks if he and Cole's brother, Harry can throw him a bachelor party. Cole agrees and the next night the party starts, complete with champagne and exotic dancers. "Congratulations man!" replies Cole's geeky brother Harry. "I never would have thought you would settle down so quickly." "If you know how I felt about her you wouldn't even have to ask. Maybe one day you'll experience it." Cole says. "What, and give up on my career? No thank you! There's too much to learn and not enough to time to learn it. There's no need to complicated things and add women." Cole just shakes his head and laughs. His brother was always more interested in school and books than girls. Maybe one day Harry will meet his perfect match like he has.

Across town Alyssa is having her own Bachelorette party. Kerrigan is stoked about the idea of her daughter getting married to Cole. It's a bit earlier than she likes but when love is the issue time is not a factor. "Thanks Mom for making the toast and helping me plan the wedding." "I couldn't have done it without you." says Alyssa. "It's no trouble at all. I'm glad you wanted my help for this big, important moment in your life." replies Kerrigan. "Of course I do Mom. You've been nothing but supportive of me in everything I've wanted to do. You're my rock and that won't ever change." Kerrigan gets a bit teary eyed at her daughters words. "I love you baby girl, don't ever forget that." said Kerrigan. "I won't. I love you too." replies Alyssa. Kerrigan grabs a bottle of champagne, pops the cork and aims it at Alyssa. "Now, let's get this party started!" yells Kerrigan.

Chapter Four

It's finally time for Alyssa to grow up and become an adult. Kerrigan stands in the background cheering her daughter on as she blows out her candles and welcomes adulthood.

The next day Alyssa graduates at City Hall. She was Valedictorian and received high honors. Kerrigan is so proud of the woman her daughter has become.

Kerrigan realized at an early age that her daughter was very creative and saw the potential she had to become an Artist. She gave Alyssa her very own easel as a graduation gift. Alyssa thanked her Mother for such a wonderful gift and hoped one day her paintings would be hung in the local Art Gallery. She knew it would be tough learning the skill put with dedication she would master it.

Chapter Three

Over the next few months Alyssa and Cole went on several more dates and officially became a couple. Tonight was their high school Prom and she hoped everything would go smoothly. She and her Mother went shopping weeks before to find her a dress for the occasion and she ended up with the perfect dress. Even her mother seemed to approve. After meeting Cole a few times, Kerrigan was okay with her daughter dating him. She learned his Mother died after she had his little sister and his Father had to raise three kids on his own while working two jobs. She could see that Cole was a strong-willed person like his Father and seemed to love her daughter very much. She could see it in Cole's eyes every time he looked at Alyssa. She watched out the window as they got into the Limo she scrapped to rent for this special night and thanked her lucky stars for such a wonderful little gift that came from such a bad situation.

When they arrived at school they had their picture taken and then started dancing. They danced to every slow song and even a few fast ones. Before Prom was over they snuck out of the Gym to take a walk around the Football field. Cole asked her if she wanted to watch the stars and she agreed. He laid down a blanket for them and as they were sitting down he pulled out a piece of paper. After looking it over he then pointed to a particular star and explained that he had it named after her. She was speechless and kissed him a little too quickly, knocking them over. She was a little embarrassed but Cole didn't seem to mind as he helped her back up.

Before they left she looked up at her star and quietly made a wish that this was the man she would spend the rest of her life with. Because she couldn't imagine loving anyone else like she does Cole. He made her feel safe and warm. He made her forget about all her troubles and most importantly he made her feel loved.

Chapter Two

Kerrigan started worrying a little less when Alyssa aged into a teenager. They had a decent amount of money, a newly remodeled house and they haven't seen or heard from Michael in awhile. Alyssa was doing exceptionally well in school and even signed up for extra curricular activities. Although tonight Kerrigan was a little stressed because Alyssa asked if she could go on a date. She reluctantly said yes. She knew she had to let her little girl grow up sometime and was confident that she raised a smart young lady. But sometimes people make mistakes when it comes to matters of the heart, she should know. So Kerrigan told Alyssa that she was allowed to see a movie but to come straight home afterwards.

Alyssa knew why her Mother was so protective of her. She heard the whispers from the town's people about her Father's abusiveness and alcoholism in the past. But she was certain she wouldn't follow in her Mother's footsteps. Cole Emerson was the sweetest guy she'd ever met. She has had her eye on him ever since they met at the Art Gallery. Cole picked her up and drove them to the movie theater. During the movie he held her hand but she noticed he seemed a little nervous. After the movie was over and they were walking out of the theater, Cole moved in closer and walked her over to a dark corner outside the doors. He then pressed his lips firmly against her's. It was their first kiss and it made her feel like she was walking on air. She wondered if he was thinking about this moment while they were watching the movie. She hoped so because it was a moment she'd never forget.
